Silicone asphalt rejuvenator is a high-tech material for preventive pavement maintenance. Composed of hard asphalt, organosilicon polymers, aromatic compounds and special surfactants, it reduces surface tension to enhance the permeability of the material itself and its compatibility with original asphalt components. This allows the silicone asphalt to penetrate directly into the interior of asphalt materials and the asphalt film coating aggregates, thereby fully exerting the sealing, bonding and rejuvenating functions of the material.
Silicone-modified asphalt features strong adhesion to various pavements and is rich in active oils. It replenishes the active oils lost in aged asphalt pavements into microcracks and voids, restores the toughness and elasticity of pavement structures, and delivers long-lasting sealing performance.
Silicone modification of asphalt involves complex chemical reactions. It is manufactured through high-temperature shearing, grinding and maturing of organosilicon and asphalt. It takes full advantage of the long molecular chains of organosilicon, whose length remains unchanged under both high and low temperatures. After asphalt modification, it can adapt to outdoor environments ranging from -60℃ to 100℃. For customers in Northeast and Northwest China, the focus is on solving low-temperature brittle cracking of silicone asphalt adhered in pavement voids under cold conditions, while for customers in South China, priority is given to addressing high-temperature flow of silicone asphalt in pavement voids under hot conditions.
1. **Improve pavement stability**
This product features excellent UV resistance and thermal shock resistance, making it suitable for both cold and hot climates. It enhances the stability and anti-deformation performance of asphalt concrete, reduces damage caused by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and prevents pore and void bursting damage induced by vehicle loads in humid environments.
2. **Excellent sealing performance**
With low viscosity, the product can deeply penetrate capillary pores and voids without forming surface films. It boasts superior permeability and outstanding hydrophobicity, achieving an ultra-high sealing effect on the original pavement with a water permeability rate of zero. In addition, the silicone asphalt can permanently seal voids, capillary pores and cracks ≤ 2mm in asphalt pavement, forming an internal waterproof and moisture-resistant mechanism for asphalt roads.
3. **High wear resistance**
Specially formulated wear-resistant and reducing materials are added to the silicone asphalt, ensuring permanent wear resistance. It features strong bonding and adhesion to various asphalt pavements with slight color fading. The sealing effect lasts for at least 3 years, fundamentally extending the service life of asphalt pavements.
4. **High permeability**
It restores the neat black appearance of the original pavement, provides a good visual experience for drivers, and improves driving safety.
5. **Excellent oil and color restoration effect**
The renovated asphalt pavement achieves a brand-new condition. It delivers remarkable repairing effects on aging pavement diseases such as oil deficiency, looseness, segregation and cracking.
6. **Strong performance restoration capability**
After renovation, the three core indicators of aged asphalt (penetration, ductility and softening point) can be restored to the national standard requirements of Grade 70 asphalt.
7. **Simple construction**
No milling, patching or crack pouring is required. The construction is completed in one pass to restore pavement functions and seal fine mesh cracks on a large scale. Construction can be carried out at temperatures above 5℃, and traffic can be reopened within 3 to 4 hours after construction.
- Permeability. The penetration depth is uniform and can reach 12 mm, showing good permeability.
- Regeneration and restoration effect. According to the tests on asphalt penetration, ductility and softening point before and after construction, the ductility at 15℃ and penetration increased by 20% and 46% respectively, while the softening point decreased by 3.5%.
- Sealing performance (water permeability). The water permeability coefficient of the original asphalt specimen is 227 mL/min, and the water permeability becomes 0 after the specimen is coated with silicone asphalt.
- Friction property. Within 3 to 4 hours after construction, the loss rate of friction coefficient is no more than 2.5%. Therefore, under adequate curing conditions, there is no obvious impact on the friction performance of asphalt pavement.
1. Prior to construction, loose, spalled areas, cracks and pavement dust must be thoroughly cleaned (pavements contaminated with oil shall be completely cleaned), and the pavement shall be kept dry.
2. Tape off the construction area to prevent contamination of adjacent pavement for a neat appearance. For large-area construction, tape and protect traffic markings.
3. Cracks less than 5 mm wide may be filled and levelled with a mixture of silicone asphalt fog seal material and fine sand (the grain size of fine sand shall be less than 2/3 of the crack width), or filled with our special high-strength crack filler. Cracks wider than 5 mm shall be treated by pouring crack sealant.
4. Silicone asphalt pavement rejuvenator shall not be applied when the surface temperature is too low or under rainy, foggy or windy conditions. Construction equipment shall be selected according to the construction area. Trowel application can be adopted for small areas, while pressure sprayers are suitable for larger areas (adjust the nozzle-to-ground distance, spray angle and spray pressure in accordance with the equipment manual to ensure the silicone asphalt is evenly sprayed onto the pavement in atomized form). An asphalt distributor shall be used for spraying in large-area construction.
5. When applying the rejuvenator with an asphalt distributor, the spray rate, spray pressure and height shall be pre-adjusted. A gear pump is used to transfer silicone asphalt from the 200 kg drum into the distributor tank, and spraying can start after thorough mixing of the silicone asphalt. The travelling speed of the asphalt distributor shall be determined according to the designed application rate and equipment parameters. Generally, the application rate is controlled at 0.4–0.5 kg/㎡. Adjust the vehicle speed and pump rotation speed properly for different distributor models to guarantee accurate application rate. During spraying, the equipment shall travel at a constant speed to achieve uniform distribution of silicone asphalt. Proper construction treatment shall be carried out for transverse and longitudinal joints. Control the travelling direction and spray width to reduce overlap at construction joints and avoid over-spraying or missing areas. Pavement sections not covered at transverse and longitudinal joints may be sprayed manually after distributor work is completed. Upon completion of distributor spraying, the asphalt pump and pipelines shall be thoroughly cleaned with thinner.
